Portal 2012 features work from local Applied Arts graduate

Posted by mike

‘Portal’ is an exhibition of applied arts featuring the work of this year’s top UK graduates. Wrexham based jewellery designer Meg Darlington will be exhibiting her beautiful graduate body of work until the end of September at the Annual New Graduate Exhibition.

The exhibition will take place in Llantarnam Grange Arts Centre in Cwmbran, South Wales from 18th August. Llantarnam Grange have travelled the UK to select the cream of this year’s graduates in the applied arts and have been searching for those who are pushing the boundaries of applied art whilst maintaining and developing the traditions of their craft. This year’s ‘Portal’ is a collaborative project with Oriel Davies in Newtown and the exhibition will move on to here in October.

Talking about what inspires her work Meg says “I am fascinated by the change and decay of the environment around me. My jewellery is based on my own photographic research focussing on peeling or chipped paint from wooden doors and the point of impact on smashed windows. My work encases fragments of wood and glass in metal ‘frames’ to highlight issues of fragility and preciousness.”
