12 Days of Artists: Tim Humphreys-Jones

For the 7th day of artists, our latest feature involves someone who has been working with Undegun from the very begging, starting off as a Glyndwr University English student coming along to the space and wanting to bring more spoken word events to Wrexham. Two years later Tim Humpherys-Jones is still with us present Voicebox every second Monday with the loving support of his Wife Jade and an amazing group of spoken word artists that support and represent the scene within Wrexham.

Favourite place, and why?
Coedpoeth, view of town from there in the night, or fog over Wrexham in the morning is wicked.

Favourite Reindeer?
Don’t have one.

Describe your self in 5 words:
ginger. married. writer. honest. optimist.

What is your current practice and what have you been up to?
At present I am trying to broaden my horizons in terms of my poetry and looking at going over music. I am also Artistic Director of Voicebox (Spoken Word night in Wrexham) and I am hoping that it continues to grow as it has done over the past 2 years.

How long have you been a practising Poet for?
Almost ten years.

At what point in your life did you know you wanted to be a Poet?
15/16

If you could buy your 10 year old self anything for Christmas what would it be?
Tickets to the FA cup final to see Liverpool win against Arsenal.

Is there anything in particular you are looking forward to this Christmas?
I always look forward to the family meals and getting to spend time with my relatives. this year, I’m cooking. Should be fun.

Have you got any plans for the New Year?
2016 Will be one of firsts for Voicebox as we branch out to potentially have; our first slam, hiphop special, beatbox battle and spoken word play. I am definitely looking forward to all of them too. I am hoping to find an a venue for my next book publishing venture too but I don’t know how that will pan out just yet.

If you could get anything for Christmas this year what would it be?
Tickets for an all inclusive holiday trip to Barcelona for Jade and I.

Horror Summer Present: Wrexham Mini Zine Fest

On Saturday 23rd May, 12pm – 4pm, pop-up space Undegun will be home to Wrexham Mini Zine Fest presented to you by Horror Summer, a collective created by Kirsty Gaughan and Heather Wilson.

Horror Summer are an arts collective and a not-for-profit social enterprise: this means that any money we make goes right back into working with more cool people to make even cooler stuff.

Recently Horror Summer have been awarded the #Loveto in Wales small grants program by Volunteer Arts the Horror Summer collective have been working towards encouraging 16 – 25 year olds to volunteer and get involved with the creative scene that has been developing within Wrexham. This involves hosting a number of workshops, to help inspire people to create their own zines.

The zine fest will involve zine stalls and workshops, and performances provided by Voicebox. The gathering of stall holders varies from poets, illustrators, graphic novels, and musicians.

Workshops that will be held on the day:

Comics & Zines – Miss Heather Comics
Fabric Key Rings – Crwban Design

Special Guests will include:

Salford Zine library – Who will be bring a sample from their collection to display on the day.

Voicebox – They will be promoting their first collecting small press book that involves a collection of poetry, short stories and a variation of artwork. Performing for us will be Stephen James, Pete Rogers, Carl Colak Dunlop, Tasha Borton, and Tim ‘Eddy’ Humphreys-Jones.

Voicebox – an evening of Spoken Word at Un Deg Un

Wrexham’s pop-up art space will be offering a warm welcome to local writers, poets, lyricists, beatboxers, comedians, singers and story-tellers at the first monthly open-mic spoken word event, Voicebox on November 11.
At the heart of Wrexham town Centre, Un Deg Un will provide a comfortable space for local artists to perform and network. Whether you wish to listen to the readings while you relax on the sofas with a coffee, or sit at a table making notes for your next masterpiece, Voicebox is a great platform to enjoy and take part in an evening of performance art.

Organised by local student & writer Tim Humphreys-Jones in association with community arts organisation THIS Project, Voicebox will begin at 7 p.m. on November 11th at Un Deg Un (formally JJB Sports) in Wrexham town centre
