The Glendale Family presents… Babeshadow

London-based Babeshadow is the ongoing musical project of childhood best friends Tom Cawte and David Thornley. A band born of a mutual passion for the same kind of dreamy, homespun sounds, the boys began honing their songwriting skills and on-stage dynamic while still only adolescents, having spent much time during their teenage years busking their best tunes In the streets of Kent, London and Paris.

After relocating from Kent to London, the boys took their vast catalogue of love songs and life stories from the streets into the studio, expanding their two-man routine into a larger outfit. It wasn’t until a chance opportunity to open for Peter Doherty at the Rhythm Factory in 2009 that the boys christened themselves Babeshadow, a name borrowed from a T-Rex track plucked off one of their favourite records.

In 2010, Babeshadow released their first EP, Sea Serpents, on LuvLuvLuv Records after being scouted by label boss and manager Mairead Nash. The success of the EP regularly landed them in Maida Vale studios doing TV appearances on BBC and performing live on radio sessions with Rob Da Bank and Steve Lamacq. After only a few live gigs under the belt amongst small London bars, the band found themselves playing in front of crowds of around 5000 people every night supporting Florence + The Machine and The Drums on The Cosmic Love Tour. Their last single, Days of Old, was recorded in Abbey Road Studios After Hours, splitting recording time in the famous Studio 2 with Lady Gaga, who was recording her album there during the day.

The last year has seen the boys of Babeshadow working towards the completion of their first record in their homemade recording studio in East London. The final product is certain to carry on the band’s signature style – bright, cheerful harmonies and a natural sound that shows off their love for analogue equipment. What results is a laid-back, melodic collage of stories told through self-penned songs that span a lifetime’s friendship, tunes inspired from the books and paintings they shared with each other growing up, as well as by the real-life romances and heartbreaks that write the history of a boyhood left behind and the adulthood that awaits them.
