___Ben Johnson: My Life in Art___
A talk from an internationally renowned artist about his Life in Art

___Biography___
Ben was born in Llandudno in 1946 and moved to London when he secured a place at the Royal College of Art. He was made Honorary Fellow of the Royal Institute of British Architects for his contribution to the public’s understanding of contemporary architecture. He has exhibited nationally and internationally with his first UK solo exhibition being at the ICA in 1973. He was represented by Fischer Fine Art from 1973 until their closure in 1992. His works are displayed in public and private collections worldwide, including in the Victoria & Albert Museum, British Museum, Government Art Collection, Contemporary Arts Society, Museum of Liverpool, Guildhall Art Gallery, Royal Institute of British Architects and Museum of London. His Commissions have included a Hong Kong Panorama to mark handover of Hong Kong in 1997; a set of five paintings for a Peace Foundation commissioned by The Khalili Family Trust; a commemorative print for British Museum Development Trust to celebrate opening of Great Court; “The Liverpool Cityscape” for European Capital of Culture 2008 commissioned by National Museums Liverpool. Ben’s recent solo exhibitions have been in the Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool 2008, which attracted 250,000 visitors and, to coincide with major Canaletto exhibition, “Modern Perspectives,” The National Gallery, Trafalgar Square, London, where Johnson completed a painting in public, attracting 73,000 visitors in 6 weeks; “Time Past Time Present,” Alan Cristea Gallery, London 2014. A retrospective is planned at Southampton City Art Gallery from September to December 2015.
