engage Cymru Area Group Meeting hosts an Artworks Paul Hamlyn Foundation Special Initiative ‘Connecting the Conversation’: a connected conversation of 1,000 people over a 10-day period celebrating the practice of artists who work in participatory settings between 16-26 March.
Join us at Oriel Wrecsam for a day of discussion around the subject of off-site galleries and off-site participatory practice.
Speakers:
Angela Rogers of engage Cymru will introduce the Connecting Conversations project, and give a wider context for the meeting
Steffan Jones Hughes, (Arts Manager for Wrexham and Director of Oriel Wrecsam) and
Jo Marsh (Oriel Wrecsam Learning and Engagement Officer) will give insight into Oriel Wrecsam’s imminent move out of its current building, and forthcoming programme of off-site activity, as plans for a new cultural hub unfold.
Tom Goddard will discuss his experience as Learning and Participation Officer at the Glynn Vivian Art Gallery, Swansea, which has been operating off-site since 2011 as it undergoes a £6m refurbishment.
Oriel Wrecsam’s ART VEND:
This will be a chance to have a sneak preview of Oriel Wrecsam’s new project ART VEND, which has been developed in consultation with Leeds-based Woolgather Art Collective.
Tiny artworks which have been created by commissioned artists from Wales and beyond, can be purchased from town centre vending machines for £1 each. Participants will exclusively get to see and buy from the first vending machine at the gallery, before Oriel Wrecsam’s ART VEND officially launches on 28th March.
There will be a lively conversation with the guest speakers around offsite galleries and looking at how off-site engagement/participatory activities can work. The conversation will include discussions around what role participants play in developing the creative vision for projects and how do we enable these roles?

ART VEND Oriel Wrecsam:
Dyma gyfle i gael rhagflas o brosiect newydd Oriel Wrecsam, ART VEND, sydd wedi’i ddatblygu mewn ymgynghoriad â’r Woolgather Art Collective yn Leeds.
Gellir prynu gweithiau celf bach iawn sydd wedi’u creu gan artistiaid comisiwn o Gymru a thu hwnt o beiriannau gwerthu yng nghanol y dref am £1 yr un. Bydd y cyfranogwyr yn cael cyfle unigryw i weld a phrynu o’r peiriant gwerthu cyntaf yn yr oriel, cyn i ART VEND Oriel Wrecsam lansio’n swyddogol ar 28 Mawrth.
Bydd sgwrs fywiog gyda’r siaradwyr gwadd am orielau oddi ar y safle ac edrych sut mae ymgysylltu/ gweithgareddau cyfranogol yn gallu gweithio. Bydd y sgwrs yn cynnwys trafodaeth am rôl cyfranogwyr yn datblygu’r weledigaeth greadigol ar gyfer prosiectau a sut mae galluogi’r rolau hyn.
