A fantastic opportunity for young people aged 16 – 25 to work alongside leading artist Laura Ellen Bacon as she constructs new site- specific installation, unique to Ruthin Craft Centre: which will be exhibited in gallery 2 from the 4th of August until the 21st of September 2014.
The work of Laura Ellen Bacon has been described as, ‘monumental’, ‘uncanny’, ‘compelling’ and ‘beautifully strange’. Laura’s contemporary sculptures were initially inspired by nest-like forms and she has since developed her own unique language with materials – a language that communicates the properties of the materials she uses and her strong desire to turn chaotic amounts of raw materials into ‘spaces’ of some kind.
Powerfully organic in appearance, she invariably creates site specific art and has gained a strong reputation for her large works in built environments, interior settings and rolling landscapes, including Chatsworth, Sudeley Castle (for Sotheby’s) and The Artists’ House at Roche Court in Wiltshire and now for Ruthin Craft Centre in 2014.

Cyfle ffantastig i bobl ifanc 16 – 25 oed weithio ochr yn ochr â’r artist blaenllaw Laura Ellen Bacon wrth iddi adeiladu gosodiad newydd sy’n safle-sbesiffig ac sy’n unigryw i Ganolfan Grefftau Rhuthun. Bydd yn cael ei arddangos yn oriel 2 o Awst 4ydd tan Fedi 21ain 2014.
Disgrifiwyd gwaith Laura Ellen Bacon yn ‘enfawr’, ‘annaearol’, ‘ysgogol’ ac ‘yn hyfryd o ryfedd’. Fe ysbrydolwyd cerfluniau cyfoes Laura i ddechrau gan ffurfiau fel nythod ac ers hynny mae wedi datblygu ei hiaith unigryw ei hun â defnyddiau – iaith sy’n cyfathrebu priodweddau ei defnyddiau a’i dyhead cryf i droi symiau anhrefnus o ddefnyddiau crai’n ‘ofodau’ o ryw fath.
A hithau’n rymus o organig yn ei hedrychiad, bydd, yn ddieithriad, yn creu celfyddyd sy’n benodol i safle ac mae wedi ennill enw da cadarn am ei gweithiau mawr mewn amgylcheddau adeiledig, lleoliadau tu mewn a thirweddau tonnog, yn cynnwys Chatsworth, Sudeley Castle (ar gyfer Sotheby’s) a The Artists’ House yn Roche Court yn Swydd Wiltshire ac yn awr ar gyfer Canolfan Grefftau Rhuthun yn 2014.
