Open Call: Oriel Wrecsam Residency

Oriel Wrecsam was built in 1973, and has shown some of the leading figures in the art world over the past 40 years, including Mona Hatoum, Shani Rhys James, Joseph Beuys, Helen Sear, and Rose Wylie to name but a few.
In March 2015 Oriel Wrecsam is moving offsite, as plans for a new cultural hub in Wrexham unfold.
As we transition into this exciting new phase for the arts in Wrexham, Oriel Wrecsam in inviting applications from artists working in digital and/or lens based media to undertake a residency which will help to mark the end of an era in our current building.

We are looking for an artist who will interact directly with the building and its users, gathering stories, ideas and memories which we can take with us when we move. The residency should result in a digital archive, documenting the current use and users of the building. This may include film, still images and sound. We are particularly interested in proposals which place emphasis on the juxtaposition of the gallery space with the adjacent café and meeting rooms with their various users.

The contents of the archive will initially be exhibited online and may form part of our finale celebrations in March 2015.

The residency will take place between January and February 2015, with specific dates to be agreed. The chosen artist will need to spend a minimum of 5 days on-site at Oriel Wrecsam, in addition to preparation and editing time. A work space will be available at the gallery, and may be used throughout the project.
There is a fee of £3000 for this project, which is inclusive of all materials and transport costs.

Ceisiadau Agored: Artist Preswyl Oriel Wrecsam

Adeiladwyd Oriel Wrecsam yn 1973, ac ers hynny mae wedi arddangos rhai o artistiaid blaenllaw’r byd celf yn y 40 diwethaf gan gynnwys Mona Hatoum, Shani Rhys James, Joseph Beuys, Helen Sear, a Rose Wylie i enwi ond ychydig.
Ym mis Mawrth 2015 bydd Oriel Wrecsam yn symud o’i safle presennol, wrth i gynlluniau am ganolbwynt diwylliannol newydd yn Wrecsam ddatblygu.

Wrth i ni drosi i’r cyfnod cyffrous newydd i’r celfyddydau yn Wrecsam, mae Oriel Wrecsam yn gwahodd ceisiadau gan artistiaid sy’n gweithio ac / neu gyfryngau lens i ymgymryd â phrosiect preswyl a fydd yn nodi diwedd cyfnod yn ein hadeilad presennol.

Rydym yn chwilio am artist a fydd yn rhyngweithio gyda’r adeilad a’i ddefnyddwyr, yn casglu straeon, syniadau ac atgofion y gallwn fynd â nhw gyda ni pan fyddwn yn symud. Dylai’r prosiect preswyl arwain at archif digidol, sy’n cofnodi defnydd a defnyddwyr presennol yr adeilad. Gall hyn gynnwys ffilmiau, delweddau llonydd a sain. Mae gennym ddiddordeb arbennig mewn cynigion sy’n rhoi pwyslais ar gyfosodiad yr oriel gyda chaffi cyfagos ac ystafelloedd pwyllgor a’u hamrywiol ddefnyddwyr.

Bydd cynnwys yr archif yn cael ei arddangos ar-lein i ddechrau a gall fod yn rhan o’r dathliadau terfynol ym mis Mawrth 2015.

Cynhelir y prosiect preswyl ym mis Ionawr a Chwefror 2015, ac mae’r dyddiadau penodol i gael eu cytuno eto. Bydd angen i’r artist a ddewisir dreulio o leiaf 5 diwrnod ar y safle yn Oriel Wrecsam, yn ychwanegol at yr amser paratoi a golygu. Bydd man gweithio ar gael yn yr oriel a gellir ei ddefnyddio drwy gydol y prosiect.



Mae ffi o £3000 ar gyfer y prosiect hwn sy’n cynnwys yr holl ddeunyddiau a chostau cludiant.
