Un Deg Un will opened its doors to the public over the weekend and more than 450 people visited the centre on it’s first day. The new pop up Art Space which is currently showing Glyndwr University’s 360 Degree Show, featuring graduate and post-graduate work from Glyndwr’s North Wales School of Art and Design, also had performances from some of the regions finest musicians.
The public opening followed on from the private launch which took place on Thursday, 25th July, with an invited audience of nearly 200, including Deputy Mayor Councillor T. Alan Edwards who opened the centre, and members of the Roseville Band who played a triumphant homecoming show having recently returned from the Canadian leg of their album tour. On Saturday, the crowds were entertained by local musicians Luke Gallagher, The Uninvited, The Fag Machine, and Orient Machine, and there was an incredibly positive response from all the visiting public. Stan Dickenson, from high profile act Heal The Last Stand, entertained the public on the street with his exceptional piano skills, and the day was topped off by an eclectic range of progressive new material from DJ Stu Nichols.
Located in what used to be JJB on Regent Street, ‘Un-Deg-Un’ will breathe new life into the site of the former high-street sports store which has been closed for a year and a half. Transformed into an arts centre it will play host to exhibitions, performances, projects and workshops by artists and musicians from all over the UK as well as providing studio space for local artists. The non-for-profit venture is a collaboration between the local creative organisation THIS Project, and East Street Arts, a contemporary arts organisation based in Leeds with a national reputation for transforming empty retail spaces.
