Welsh National Opera, in collaboration with Oriel Wrecsam and the people of Wrexham, invite you to attend the formal opening of ‘Only in Wrexham’ / ‘Dim ond yn Wrecsam’. This exhibition will showcase the work of WNO in Wrexham and celebrate the projects and the people that have contributed towards its success. The event will be hosted by Geraint Talfan Davies, Chairman, Welsh National Opera.
WNO is currently in the third and final year of its Wrexham Street Songs programme which has been delivered across Wrexham County. WNO has sparked the imagination of the people of Wrexham to think about opera differently and has offered the people of Wrexham a broader arts experience. The programme has brought together members of the community in writing workshops, community choirs, music composition classes and performances. Wrexham County Borough Council has kindly offered WNO a residency in Oriel Wrecsam to showcase the success and impact of the programme, and this will run until 31 May 2014.
The ‘Only in Wrexham’ / ‘Dim ond yn Wrecsam’ opening event on Friday 11 April is an opportunity for you to meet and talk to some of the community members who have been involved in the project and to view some of their work before the exhibition opens to the public. There will be a chance to meet with sponsors, partner organizations and facilitators of the work, and to meet with WNO representatives who can talk about the youth and community work of WNO. The WNO Côr Caia Choir, which is made up of residents of the Caia Park Estate and has been formed as part of the three-year WNO project, will be performing their Anthem for Wrexham at the opening event. An opera soloist will also be performing. Refreshments will be available. We do hope that you can join us in celebrating the final year of this important work.
