The Craft of Writing; Writing about Craft
Short, highly focused workshops, especially devised for makers, led by
Professor Simon Olding, Director of Crafts Study Centre, Farnham,
and Sara Roberts, curator and writer.
The workshops provide guidance on finding the authentic and individual written voice. They are designed to build confidence, and provide tools for clear expression, through a carefully researched range of exemplars and tasks. They focus on how the particular qualities and skills of makers are appropriate to the task of writing. And they look at the rules for writing, as well as providing compelling reasons for breaking them.
The workshops will:
• Provide guidelines for good practice
• Propose useful structures for good writing
• Analyse reviews, statements, blogs and exhibitions listings
• Provide tips for editing
• Illustrate key points through brief writing tasks, with craft objects as their focus
• Discuss participants’ writing and give constructive feedback
This project has received funding through the Rural Development Plan for Wales 2007-2013 which is funded by the Welsh Government and the European Agricultural fund for Rural Development.
