THE STATIC
“a small but persuasive package that has real energy and excitement.” The Guardian
Winner of the Scottish Arts Club – Edinburgh Guide Scottish Theatre Award
Winner of ThreeWeeks Editors Award
Nominated for The Stage Awards for Acting Excellence – Best Actor 2012: Brian Vernel
Following an award-winning premiere at the 2012 Edinburgh Festival Fringe, ThickSkin is touring a magnetic new play by Davey Anderson.
“We all have sick thoughts. It doesnae matter what you think, it’s what you do that counts. Trouble is, my thoughts do things. Don’t believe me? Just watch.”
Sparky is a bright but volatile 15-year-old boy on the brink of permanent exclusion from school. Then one day he falls under the spell of a seemingly psychic girl called Siouxsie and develops his own kinetic superpower. But will it save him or push him over the edge?
Featuring a striking mix of multi-media, movement and text, this visually arresting and fast-paced new play explores the ugly flipside to positive thinking – the terrifying idea that our darkest fantasies could come true.
“A dazzling display of current small-scale theatre technique, delivered and with outstanding wit an flair.” ★★★★ The Scotsman

BOY MAGNET*
A twisted tale of static shock from ThickSkin.
Charlie has issues. Faulty wiring mainly. For his whole life he’s never been able to touch. Anything. Charlie can’t wear a watch or sit close to the TV. He can’t travel by plane and most definitely never goes swimming. Charlie is electric… charged with lightning and very dangerous. Then one day Jessica appears out of nowhere, as if she’s fallen from the sky. And Charlie can’t get enough of her. As their dance leads them closer together will either of them come out of this alive?
A story told with movement and light. Immersing the audience in a club like experience that crackles with power. Don’t. Touch. Anything!
“Boy Magnet is an intelligently constructed piece merging physical theatre and audiovisual technology for maximum effect.” ★★★★ The Skinny
