The workshop will focus on the exploitation of all aspects of the print process. It will initially look at the selection of the paper and /or the fabrication of the surface to be printed on then investigate the stencil manipulation in a variety of simple mechanical ways through to photo stencils of prepared artwork.
Course members will be guided through the process of building up layers on the print, controlling accidents and engaging in intuitive or random actions to excite the surface motif.
The aim of the 2 days is to surprise, engage with maximum invention, fully exploit the facility on offer the Centre and enjoy an engaging and exhilarating burst of creativity under the guidance of skilled practitioner.
The workshop will be introduced through the theme of ‘heads’ though course members are free to develop their current ideas in the context of the processes introduced over the 2 days.
D ALUN EVANS:
Alun Evans is an artist printmaker originally from Pembrokeshire and resident in Cheshire. The natural and industrial landscape of Wales and the Northwest of England are the focus of his creative work which range from collagraphs, monotypes, screen prints, linocuts as well as drawing and painting in a range of media.
His recent work has been undertaken in the medium of screen printing and he is exploiting the potential of the medium to generate extensive varients as monoprints from a set of screens. This is a contrarian approach to the usual limited edition screen print.
He has a masters degree in fine art printmaking and has exhibited extensively in the UK with works in the collections of the National Museum of Wales; National Library of Wales; Cheshire West Council; MOMA Wales, Y Tabernacl, Machynlleth; Edge Hill University College, Lancachire; Atkinson Art Gallery, Southport, Leicestershire County Council. Bydd y gweithdy’n canolbwyntio ar ddatblygiad holl agweddau’r broses argraffu. I ddechrau, bydd yn edrych ar ddewis y papur a/neu gwneuthuriar yr wyneb i’w argraffu arno ac yna’n ymchwilio i ymdriniaeth y stensil mewn amrywiaeth o ddulliau mecanyddol syml ymlaen i ffoto stensiliau o waith celf sydd eisoes wedi ei baratoi.
Caiff aelodau’r cwrs eu tywys trwy’r broses o lunio haenau ar yr argraffiad, gan reoli damweiniau a chynnwys gweithrediadau greddfol neu ar hap gyffroi’r motif ar yr wyneb. Nod y 2 ddiwrnod yw cyffroi, ymgysylltu gyda’r dychymyg gorau, defnyddio’r cyfleusterau sydd ar gael yn y Ganolfan i’r eithaf a mwynhau ffrwydriad o greadigrwydd ymgysylltiol a bywiog o dan arweiniad ymarferwr medrus.
Cyflwynir y gweithdy trwy thema ‘pennau’ er mae rhyddid i aelodau’r cwrs ddatblygu eu syniadau presennol yng nghyd-destun y prosesau a gyflwynir dros y deuddydd.
