February

There are many reasons why February is good…

There are many reasons why February is good. Perhaps most notably, you can binge drink guilt free knowing January and its cursed resolutions are behind you. Or you could form a new routine, says a man called Phil. Pancake Day, Valentines Day, Elmo’s Birthday and Chinese New Year are all in February.. Flowers begin to bloom in February… The list goes on..

Oh, The list actually does go on. More good things about this February:

The second saw the opening of Oriel Wrecsams ‘Together From Afar’ Exhibition. A Finnish & Welsh exhibition celebrating the collaboration and cultural exchange between Marja Bonada & Amy Sterly (from Wales) and Mika Karhu & Maija Helasvuo (from Finland). Kardemimmit shared some glorious Finnish harmonies and, returning the musical exchange,  Cowbois Rhos Botwnnog provided some contemporary Welsh folk. Pictures can be found here.
Together From Afar is up until the sixth of April. So go check that. Pidän siitä todella!!

Running alongside that, in Oriel 2 & 3, there’s an exhibition featuring 2012 Criw Celf artists Jan Gardner, Greg Fuller, Luned Rhys Parri and Cefyn Burgess.

Thursday the seventh sees a ‘Work in Progress’ show at Glyndwr School of Art and Design. I’m going to pretend I know what I’m talking about and say it’s a precursor to the end-of-year-show and showcases work from Applied Arts students, , Design students and Fine Art students. Which should be damn decent as the end-of-year-show is damn good. Find out if I’m wrong by going sometime between half four and eight that night. Tell me I’m wrong if you have information about it (email – mikej@thisproject.co.uk)

At twelve o’clock on Saturday the sixteenth the People’s Market sees the opening of ‘Marking Time’, a two week pop-up exhibition which explores a sense of Wrecsam as a borderline place and the mythology of landscape across Offa’s Dyke path. The exploration of installation based light sensory ecological art is in direct response to a 6 week research project funded by the Arts Council of Wales.

Not too shabby.
