Project Space: From Groes to Groys // O Groes i Groys

The new exhibition at Oriel Wrecsam opens today. At one o’clock there will be an introductory talk by the curator, James Harper, followed by interviews with local artists Jo Marsh and Marja Bonoda to get things underway and the project runs until the 22nd of June.

Groes to Groys draws on James’ research into artist-led practice and James has invited representatives from the thriving artist-led scenes of Liverpool and Manchester to participate in a series of events alongside representatives from Wrexham’s own artist-led scene.

Taneesha Ahmed, Marja Bonada, Kevin Hunt and Jo Marsh are all actively producing artist-led curatorial projects, nationally and internationally, while Steffan Jones-Hughes is a supporter and advocate of the local artist-led scene.
Through their involvement, the exhibition will examine the importance of artist-led practice and artist-run spaces in the UK, as well as social mapping and ecology within Wrexham’s art scene. The objective of the series of events is to expose the complex internal hierarchies of the art scene in Wrexham and its surrounding settlements.
