Afasic Cymru , the only charity in wales representing parents of/and young people with Speech, Language & Communication Needs (SLCN) are delighted to receive funding from the Arts Council Wales and the Millennium Stadium Trust to support an exciting North Wales Arts project for young people with SLCN & their families.
The “Unlocking Speech & Language Arts speaks” project aims to deliver a whole range of creative courses and workshops from across the Arts for people who are in need of Afasic’s support. The ideas and inspiration for this project comes from “our” families who have attended previously held art related events. Yvonne Brookes, the Afasic Cymru North Wales Development Officer said “This project will encourage “our” young people to explore different art forms and experiment with the varying methods of expressing themselves in an alternative form that they would otherwise struggle to access due to their problems with communication. The Youngsters can explore whether art facilitates the development and expression of their ideas as well as communication with one another.”
The “Unlocking Speech & Language Arts speaks” project aims to run a series of workshops in the 2 Afasic Youth Clubs based in Old Colwyn and Flintshire during 2013/4 and hold a family day at Bodelwyddan Castle on May 28th 2014 which will offer a range of workshops for families and young people with SLCN .
Afasic require local artists to facilitate the workshops and are now asking ALL artists interested in working on the project to submit a proposal. The proposal should include
the medium of art offered together with a brief summary of workshop content
- specify what sort of participatory art experience you have
- State previous experience e.g. what sort of groups of people
previously worked with
- Duration of workshop e.g. whole day/half day/timed session
